Welcome to Geografail!

Hello, my name is Dave Murphy and I'm an international man of nerdery. I am a professional geographer by day and a doorman for a concert venue by night. I live in Washington, DC, and I am a lifelong resident of the region. And I love Geography in all its forms.

I love it so much that when I see pop culture fuck it up, I get angry. But in lieu of another Incredible Hulk style tantrum over another "news" broadcast repeatedly spewing things like "The Ukraine" or "Finlandish" or "KaZAKastan", I have resolved to shame them in blog form.

I get it, the schools don't teach geography in this country. I don't expect the typical American to know that they speak Brahui in Southern Pakistan, or that Paramaribo is the capital of Suriname, or the intricacies of the Eisenhower Interstate Highway system. But I do expect the experts to get it right, particularly when they are pushing that information on to the masses. No more free passes. I am calling you out from here on.

Welcome to Geografail.
